His Worship/ Mayor Ivan Court was first elected into council in 1998 and served three terms before being elected as Mayor in 2008. He retired in June 2006 after teaching for 33 years—seven years at Lorne Middle School, 23 years at Saint Malachy’s High and his last three at Saint John High.
Mayor Court has been involved with various committees and volunteer work in the community. His community involvement would include:
- President and Chair of Friends of St. Joseph's Hospital ;
- Former President of Saint John Figure Skating Club;
- Former Coach for Saint Malachy's High School Baseball Team;
- Member – Board of Directors-Centenary Square Day Care;
- Member – Portage N.B.;
- Coach Lancaster Minor Baseball Association;
- Coach Lancaster Minor Hockey Association;
- Member of the Nominating Committee;
- Member of the Environment Committee;
- Member of the Saint John Industrial Parks;
- Former Co-chair of the Mayor's Challenge Cup for area high schools in 2002;
- Canadian Committee on Shipbuilding and Policy;
- Former member of the Mayor's Committee for new revenue ideas for Saint John;
- Former first Vice-President of the Cities of New Brunswick Association for 2006-07 after having served as the 2nd Vice-President in 2005-06.
In his spare time, he enjoys grandson, Tristan and his wife of more than 35 years, Bliss. He also has one daughter, Nicole and one son, Jeffrey. Also sadly missed is son Christopher who passed away in 1992.
In his role with Saint John Common Council, Mayor Court sits on the Saint John Emergency Management Organization, Finance Task Force, Saint John Board of Police Commissioners and the Saint John Ability Advisory Committee. Court holds the council portfolios of Health/ Wellness and Environment. |
