What is the Central Peninsula Neighbourhood Plan?
The City is launching a neighbourhood planning process for the central peninsula of Saint John, which includes the Uptown, South End, and Waterloo Village areas. The Central Peninsula Neighbourhood Plan will bring PlanSJ, the City’s Municipal Plan, to life at the neighbourhood level. The plan will help drive smart and sustainable growth in Saint John’s core neighbourhoods and will enable the community to play a central role in shaping the areas where they live, work and play. The plan will identify the actions, programs and services needed for the City of Saint John and its community partners to undertake in order to achieve positive change in the central peninsula.
How can residents become involved?
As part of the Central Peninsula Neighbourhood Plan, the City is seeking citizens to serve on a Neighbourhood Action Team, a citizen-led committee with the purpose of supporting and advising the preparation of the plan. Details on additional opportunities for citizen involvement and engagement with the plan are soon to be released.
What is the role of the Neighbourhood Action Team?
The role of the Neighbourhood Action Team will be to serve as ambassadors of the neighbourhood plan, support engagement events, and offer recommendations to Common Council. Members are expected to meet at least once a month on weekday evenings for a period of 18 months. There will also be additional meetings and public engagement events which members will attend.
