Welcome to the City of Saint John’s Open Data Catalogue. The City has taken some first steps in joining the Global and Canadian Open Data Movement by developing an Open Data Policy and launching the pilot Open Data Portal.
Objectives of the Open Data Portal are to:
- provide information to our citizens,
- improve our City and region’s quality of life and
- foster new community-based economic development opportunities.
This pilot portal is built on best practices, peer learning and research. The City will continue to engage the community, business partners and citizens to identify a model for an enhanced and sustainable permanent open data program.
Our initial release contains many geospatial datasets. The City will work with stakeholders to identify other value-added datasets from six key categories: Municipal Planning, Public Safety, Economic Development, Financial Information, Energy and Utilities and Recreation.
The City welcomes feedback and suggestions regarding datasets, open data and the portal in general. Our hope is that users will help identify future possible datasets and potential direction for development.
Prior to accessing a dataset, users are asked to accept a Licensing Agreement. This agreement encourages free use of the data with a few conditions and is consistent with best practices in other Canadian municipalities.
