9-1-1 Is For Emergencies Only. Lives Are On The Line.

Mon October 1, 2012

The Department of Public Safety launched a public awareness campaign today to help prevent accidental and non-emergency calls to 9-1-1.

Our 9-1-1 operators report that an estimated 35 per cent of all calls are not considered emergencies.  They are either accidental calls from unlocked mobile phones, or calls from people with non-urgent problems.

The campaign, entitled “9-1-1 is for emergencies only. Lives are on the line” is designed to change attitudes and behaviours related to the use of 9-1-1.

It will feature a series of online ads, video, radio and posters that can be found on our website

The campaign is intended to encourage New Brunswickers to secure their mobile phones and keep them in a safe place, and to call 9-1-1 only in the event of a real emergency, which is considered an immediate threat to someone’s health, safety or property.

You can help us get the word out by sharing our video and other campaign elements with your colleagues, friends and family.  Together, let’s get the word out that 9-1-1 is for emergencies only, and that lives are on the line.
