Fri September 27, 2013

(SAINT JOHN, NB) – The Saint John Police Force Fraud Section is currently investigating the following telemarketing scam.

People are receiving calls stating that they have won bonus air miles, anywhere from 10,000 up to 100,000. They are then asked to provide personal information, their Air Miles identification number, or a credit card number.

AIRMILES has posted a warning at the top of its website at www.airmiles.ca. stating the following:

“AIR MILES does not use an automated message to notify Collectors they have won reward miles. Protect your Personal Information. Never give your AIR MILES Collector Account number or PIN in response to a telemarketing call.”

You can visit the Canadian Antifraud Centre’s website at www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca to learn more about what steps you should take to avoid becoming a victim of telemarketing/automated telephone schemes.
