The Street Crime Unit (SCU) is committed to making a positive difference in communities in Saint John through the investigation and prosecution of various types of crime. The SCU primarily targets drug related crime, however officers also investigate crimes related to prostitution and offences under the Provincial Offences Procedures Act (e.g., Liquor Control Act).
Investigators are responsible for identifying and protecting victims and/or potential victims, apprehending perpetrators, and suppressing unlawful activities.
Some facts about the illegal drug trade in New Brunswick:
• The most common illicit drug is marihuana, followed by cocaine, prescription narcotics and chemical drugs
• Firearms are being seized more frequently in conjunction with the seizure of drugs.
• Property crimes, such as break and enters, thefts, etc., are often committed out of need to support a drug addiction.
• Some people will sell their prescription medications to drug dealers for a profit.
