Taxi Inspector

The office of the Taxi Inspector is responsible for the licensing of all Saint John City taxi drivers and the inspection and licensing of all Saint John taxicab vehicles.  The Taxi Inspector also handles taxi complaints and concerns from the public.

The procedures for obtaining Taxi Operator and Taxi Owner licenses are outlined below.

Taxi Licensing Hours of Operation:

Tuesday – Wednesday – Thursday
9:00-11:30 am   &   1:30-3:00 pm

Taxicab Licenses will NO LONGER be issued on the same day of application being submitted. 


Taxi OPERATOR Licenses:

Applicants must pick up an application envelope for their Taxicab Operator’s License from front lobby staff, during regular business hours, or from the Cashier’s Office – Shoppes of City Hall.

Once the application and all accompanying documents have been completed/included, the application envelope is to be returned to front lobby staff during regular business hours.

As stated on the application envelope, the applicant will be contacted within 7-14 days on approval/denial of the application by the Patrol Services Administrative Assistant.

If approved, Patrol Service Administrative Assistant would contact applicant by phone and set an appointment to visit the Police station during regular TAXI licensing hours (Tue, Wed or Thu:  9:00-11:30 or 1:30-3:00) for photo to be taken, payment to be made and license to be issued (by the Patrol Services Administrative Assistant).

If denied, the applicant will be instructed to attend the Police station to meet with the Taxi Inspector to receive denial documentation.

These procedures are to be followed for any transfers or replacement of lost/stolen licenses.
 

Taxi OWNER Licenses:

Applicants must pick up an application envelope for their Taxicab Owner’s License from front lobby staff, during regular business hours.

Once the application and all accompanying documents have been completed/included, the application envelope is to be returned to front lobby staff during regular business hours.

As stated on the application envelope, the applicant will be contacted within 7-14 days on approval/denial of the application by the Patrol Services Administrative Assistant.

If approved, Patrol Services Administrative Assistant would contact applicant by phone to set an appointment to meet the Taxi Inspector to complete the Taxi inspection.  This would be scheduled at a predetermined location and would be during regular Taxi Inspection hours (Tue or Thu:  10 am). 

If denied, the applicant will be instructed to attend the Police station to meet with the Taxi Inspector to receive denial documentation.

These procedures would be followed for any transfers or replacement of lost/stolen licenses.

Saint John Taxicab Advisory Committee

The City of Saint John has an established Saint John Taxicab Advisory Committee responsible for promoting and encouraging service to the public, professionalism and the interests of the Taxicab industry.
