Development Advisory & Approval

The City of Saint John is committed to ensuring you have a say in the long term goals of the community.  The Development Advisory and Approval Service plays a role in approving various development projects.  We review applications and consult with the public and other City services to make sure proposed projects are in line with the City’s planning guidelines and the long term goals of the community.

City staff also provide advice to those wishing to learn more about the development standards and the approval process.

Development applications are required for:

  • Municipal Plan amendments
  • Zoning By-Law amendments
  • Section 39 amendments
  • Subdivisions
  • Temporary Use Permit
  • Non-Conforming Use
  • Conditional Uses
The City offers various assistance programs as incentives for future development.

  • residential infrastructure assistance
  • commercial improvement
