On February 8, 2011, the City of Saint John received notice that the Town of Rothesay had disconnected its customers from the water main servicing Kennebecasis Park and Hastings Cove. This was contrary to the water supply agreement between the City of Saint John and the Town of Rothesay. This disconnection from the City system has created a long low-flow large dead-end pipe that will have an impact on water quality for Saint John residents east of Broadway Avenue.
The City of Saint John has implemented a contingency plan, which includes more frequent monitoring of water quality and flushing in the affected area to maintain water quality.
The monitoring program will test water for proper chlorine residuals and microbiology counts as per the provincial Department of Health's requirements.
Residents are being kept up to date on the status of their drinking water, and Saint John Water will notify residents via email (if provided, see form at right) and hand-delivered notice if conditions change.
