By-Law Enforcement

The City of Saint John has a responsibility to you, our citizens, to ensure city by-laws are observed.  The By-Law Enforcement Service is responsible for the enforcement of city by-laws related to maintenance and usage of property, animal control, and some licensing.  City staff investigate complaints and inspect properties to make sure the standards laid out in the by-laws are met.
Compliance with city by-laws is obtained through education, mediation and as necessary through enforcement and prosecution.
