Upgrades to the intersections of Rothesay Avenue with Ashburn Lake Road and Retail Drive allow traffic demand to change how the traffic lights works.
Communication between the traffic controllers of the two intersections and wireless technology that detects the presence of vehicles can allow a longer line of vehicles at one of the six legs of these two intersections to keep moving, which reduces waiting times for motorists.
More efficient traffic systems like this also reduce the amount of time a vehicle sits idling, which is also a benefit to the environment!
