WHAT IS HAPPENING?
Motorists heading west (down) King Street are not permitted to turn Right onto St. Patrick Street when the traffic light is Red as of October 21, 2010.
WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?
Citizens and Common Council have requested improvement to the pedestrian crossing on St. Patrick Street at King Street. The intersection was evaluated, and the decision to prohibit motorists from turning right on a red signal from King Street to St. Patrick Street was made. Pedestrians are permitted to use this crossing via a Pedestrian Signal that coincides with the time when motorists on King Street face a Red Signal. Preventing motorists from turning Right on the Red Signal (when pedestrians can cross the street) reduces the risk of collisions.
WHAT WILL IT LOOK LIKE?
Motorists heading west (down) King Street preparing to turn Right to St. Patrick Street will face new signals and new signs as highlighted in the picture above. The sequence of how these signals will display and their meaning for these motorists are detailed in the table below.
