Buckle Up – the Saint John Police Force will be doing spot checks

24-Feb-2011

The Saint John Police Force will be conducting spot check programs and strategic enforcement techniques targeting seat belt usage in the month of March.

Between 40 and 50 percent of motor vehicle accident fatalities result from crashes where vehicle operators or passengers are not wearing their seat belts properly.

Under the New Brunswick Motor Vehicle Act. Sec. 200.1(2), drivers must wear their seat belt properly and Sec. 200.1 (4)(b) Passengers must wear seat belt. The fine is $172.50.

The Saint John Police Force reminds citizens that a properly secured seat belt could save their life.
