City cautions west side residents to be prudent with phone and door-to-door solicitors

13-Sep-2018

IMPORTANT PUBLIC NOTICE – Protect yourself and your property. The City has been notified by west side residents that salespeople calling and going door-to-door are falsely representing themselves as working with or for the City/Saint John Water, making misleading statements about the quality of the drinking water, requesting access to homes, and pressuring residents to purchase or rent equipment.

Please be aware of the following:
• City staff, including Saint John Water, are not making these house visits.
• Water from the South Bay Wellfield is safe to consume.
• The purchase and installation of a water softener is a personal choice. Anyone wishing to install one should research the company selling the product and ensure they are reputable.

The Financial and Consumer Services Commission (FCNB) has been notified about the complaints the City has received. Anyone who has been contacted and has concerns should file a complaint directly with the FCNB by calling 1 866-933-2222.

Protect yourself and know who’s requesting your personal information. For details on how to do this, visit http://fcnb.ca/For-What-Its-Worth.html?fb_37818530_anch=38629156

Please help us pass this message along by sharing it online and notifying your neighbours.
