City Jumps on Broadband Wagon

(Saint John) Patrons of City of Saint John facilities can now get free online service.  The City of Saint John has joined FreeSpots, the public WI-FI service for the city that offers free wireless internet.

“It’s an initiative that makes sense to support, say Mayor Ivan Court.  “You just have to look through the pedway on a cruise ship day, for example, and notice passengers and crew logging on with their laptops and PDAs.  Offering free wi-fi creates an attractive business and entertainment environment for citizens and visitors.”

The freespot initiative comes on the heels of the City recently being designated one of the world’s Smart21 high tech hot spots by the Intelligent Community Forum, an international-based organization dedicated to economic and social development in the broadband economy.

The Shoppes of City Hall, City of Saint John arenas, the Canada Games Aquatic Centre, and the Saint John City Market are among the facilities providing the free WI-FI service.
