City of Saint John Emergency Operations Center Activated in Response to Fire

01-Feb-2015

Kevin Clifford Fire Chief and Director, Saint John Emergency Management Organization (SJEMO) has activated the City’s Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) in order to respond to the communities’ needs as a result of an early morning fire on Prince Edward Street.

The fire has caused significant damage to two buildings and caused several families to be displaced. A 10-storey building across the street has lost power and is being evacuated. SJEMO is working with the Canadian Red Cross to assist all those affected.

Crews from the Saint John Fire Department, the Saint John Police Force, Saint John Water and Saint John Energy are at the scene.

City crews who would normally be plowing streets have been diverted to assist emergency crews with the efforts.

Residents are asked to avoid the area.
