City's response to snowstorm underway

12-Jan-2011

The City of Saint John’s Roadway Maintenance and Sidewalk Maintenance services will be working to keep the City streets and sidewalks free and clear of snow and ice this evening and overnight. Snow plowing equipment will clearing City streets and sidewalks for motorists and pedestrians.

Since these activities could be occurring during the evening traffic rush, please be cautious and take due care and attention when encountering this heavy equipment. Please keep the conditions in mind and slow down when necessary.

The City’s Winter Operations Centre will be open today and into the night to manage the response to the storm. City staff will be working within the Winter Management Plan to meet the established service objectives according to Priority and based on the storm severity. Major arteries, highway connections and emergency routes will be cleared constantly by the assigned plowing equipment, with major bus routes, and streets connecting schools, community centres and business districts as the second priority.

The necessary equipment inspections and operations coordination is underway and will continue until the storm event has passed. Please assist your neighbours and the City by using your available off-street parking to ensure the most efficient snow plowing and removal operation possible.

Please note: The City’s community centres are closed this evening, and the meeting scheduled for the North End Community Centre has been cancelled.
