Residents throughout the North end of the City will notice more than just an improved roadway on Millidge Avenue when asphalt resurfacing is completed. The street is a key part of the Campus Harbour Connection, the first comprehensive bike route in Saint John.
It is a 4.5 KM long arterial of dedicated bike lanes and shared use lanes using existing streets such as Millidge Avenue, Somerset Street, Adelaide Street and Metcalf Street and connects to Harbour Passage.
The route will provide an active transportation link between two of the cities primary development areas – the Tucker Park Collaborative and the Uptown – as outlined in PlanSJ.
Motorists and cyclists are are encouraged to visit www.saintjohn.ca/bikeroute for an interactive map of the route.
The Pedestrian & Traffic Management Service at the City of Saint John partnered with Active Transportation Saint John and Uptown Saint John’s Green Feet Committee to make the project a reality. The wayfaring signage for the project was developed as a result of a contest held by Uptown Saint John.
The various sections of the Campus Harbour Connection are planned to be constructed throughout June 2013 with a completion date planned by July 1, 2013. Please check www.saintjohn.ca from time to time so you know when the route is ready to use.
