Kennebecasis Drive will be closed to all traffic between Beach Crescent and Tucker Beach Road (the Tucker Park entrance) beginning July 11 until the end of September. Crews will be replacing the Alder Brook culverts at Brothers Cove and reconstructing the roadway culverts and road within the construction limits.
The two existing culverts crossing Kennebecasis Drive at Alder Brook (Brothers Cove) are in poor condition and require replacement. Alder Brook presently overtops Kennebecasis Drive during major rainfall events and spring freshet. Some minor roadway alignments will also be made during the replacement of the culverts to correct a natural low spot in Kennebecasis Drive.
As there is no through-traffic on Kennebecasis Drive during the construction period, motorists are advised to use Millidge Avenue to access the western end of Kennebecasis Drive, and Sandy Point Road to access the eastern end. Motorists requiring access to the Somerville ferry on Kennebecasis Drive or the Cherry Brook Zoo should use Sandy Point Road or Foster Thurston Drive. Motorists requiring access to the Royal Kennebeccasis Yacht Club should use Millidge Avenue.
Saint John Transit reminds citizens that the #25 Millidgeville North route will be subject to a detour and delays during the closure of Kennebecasis Drive. Passengers should expect a 10 to 15 minute delay of the posted schedule times.
Passengers are asked to be at their bus stop at the posted times on the schedule.
There will be an extra bus in the morning and afternoon leaving the uptown stops on the scheduled times. For more information about Saint John Transit’s detour plans, or for general route information, call 658-4700 or visit saintjohntransit.com.
