Joe Armstrong has been promoted to Deputy Fire Chief for the Saint John Fire Department.
Deputy Chief Armstrong joined the Saint John Fire Department as a Holiday Relief Firefighter in 1979 and was promoted to Lieutenant in 2005. He served many years on the Rescue Squad and mostly recently served as Platoon Chief.
The Deputy Chief has completed various programs through Dalhousie University including a certificate in Theoretical Foundations of Incident Command. Additionally he has completed training programs at Texas A & M University, the Manitoba Emergency Services College, the Canadian Emergency Management College and the CBRNE training facility in Suffield Alberta.
“Deputy Chief Armstrong has the rich fire ground experience necessary to the role of Deputy Fire Chief for the Saint John Fire Department,” said Saint John Fire Department Chief Kevin Clifford. “He has developed the trust and respect of those under his command, and it is through these leadership attributes that he will have a critical role in ensuring that our fire operations are as safe and effective as they can possibly be as we work to achieve the best possible outcome for the visitors, employers and citizens of our community.”
