Saint John Fire Department and New Brunswick Community College to Explore Training Partnership

10-Feb-2017

Saint John Common Council approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Saint John Fire Department (SJFD) and New Brunswick Community College (NBCC) to formalize the exploration and viability of mutually beneficial partnership opportunities. The MOU also supports the fire services efforts to explore training improvements and enhancements through innovation and by developing partnerships.

“The Saint John Fire Training Centre is a first class training facility and a platform for revenue generation that leverages the expertise of the Saint John Fire Department,” said Fire Chief Kevin Clifford. “NBCC has particular expertise and skillsets that are expected to very nicely complement those of the Saint John Fire Department. In addition to the excellence that NBCC bring to the table in research and instruction, they also have particular expertise in understanding the training market and identifying third party funding opportunities and navigating the associated processes.”

“We are very pleased to be partnering with the City of Saint John to further their goal of delivering world-class training to their Fire Department,” said Paul Carter, Dean of Trades, Apprenticeship and Preparatory at New Brunswick Community College.  “This MOU reflects NBCC’s commitments both to our learners and to our communities.  Through this exploratory MOU, we look forward to developing quality training that will support the City of Saint John in continuing to deliver excellent fire safety services.”
