Expect spot checks this long weekend as the Saint John Police Force conducts a Joint Forces Operation with Rothesay Regional Police, the RCMP, and the Provincial Commercial Vehicle and Off-road Vehicle Enforcement divisions. The operation is in recognition of Canada Road Safety Week.
Officers will be keeping an eye out for impaired drivers, seatbelt use and speeding, as well as other motor vehicle infractions.
“Road safety begins with the driver,” says Sgt. Jeff LaFrance, of the Saint John Police Force Traffic Division. “The first long weekend of the season is a good time to reach motorists as people take advantage of the holiday to travel. The week provides an opportunity to remind motorists to practice safe driving measures.”
Canada Road Safety Week runs May 18th through the Victoria Day long weekend and is part of a national campaign to make Canada’s roads the safest in the world.
