Winter Storm Update
January 21, 2019 | 12 noon

City closures

City Hall, arenas, the Saint John City Market and all other non-essential services will remain closed today. Saint John Transit services are also suspended for the rest of the day. All City services are expected to reopen tomorrow, January 22.

Road conditions and clearing operations

Roads across the City are ice packed and slippery. The City encourages other businesses and organizations within the municipality to consider advising their non-essential staff to stay safe and off the roads. City plows and emergency services need the space to work and move around efficiently and safely. Limited traffic allows for safer operations, and crews are out in full force to clear, sand and salt priority areas as efficiently as possible. Priority 1 and 2 are being addressed first, followed by 3s and 4s.

What you can do to help

The 911 communications centre is receiving a number of calls for non-emergency matters. Please help keep those lines open for emergencies only.

• Share our messages and heed all warnings
• If possible, move cars off the roads to allow room for City plows and emergency vehicle access
• Avoid any non-essential travel
• Avoid all flooded areas
• Clear any drain basins around your property to open them up for proper drainage
• Clear any snow from around fire hydrants near your property
• Although heavy and difficult, we know, try to clear any snow that plows may leave behind at the end of your driveway while pieces are still lose
• Check in on your neighbours, family and friends
