Winter Storm Updates and Cancellations *New

27-Jan-2015

Update 4:30pm

Foster Thurston Road has reopened however motorists are advised to use another route if possible.

Updated 2:30pm

Citizen safety remains our number one priority and City crews are out in full force to keep streets passable and safe. The City thanks citizens for their efforts to stay off the roads, and for understanding the challenges today's weather conditions present.

As per the City's Winter Management Plan, priority one and two streets are cleared first, and continuously. Priority one routes include main streets, highway connections and emergency routes, followed by major bus routes, school zones and community centre and business areas.

Citizens with questions about City services can call 658-4455. In the case of an emergency, residents should call 911.

Garbage and compost collection services were on schedule this morning. Residents who were not able to get their garbage to the curb for today's garbage and compost collection are asked to place it to the curb by 7:30 a.m. tomorrow (Wednesday) and crews will return for pick up. These same crews will then resume regular Wednesday garbage collection routes, as per the schedule.

Tuesday night garbage and compost collection in the South Central Peninsula will not be picked up on Tuesday night. It will be scheduled for collection on Wednesday evening. Those who placed garbage and compost at the curb today are asked to please remove it from the curb so it is not in the way of the plows.

With the storm projected to continue into tomorrow, the focus in the South Central Peninsula will be to plow snow and push it back as far as possible prior to snow removal operations that may be carried out on Thursday night. An overnight snow parking ban in the South Central Peninsula is expected to be called for Thursday night. Please stay tuned for the official notification. An Overnight snow parking ban is never called while a storm is still in effect. For notifications on snow bans and other City news, register for email updates at www.saintjohn.ca.

The Saint John Police Force is urging people to stay off the roads, unless necessary. When on the roads, motorists should turn their headlights on so plow operators and other motorists can see each other.
