The skating surface at Rainbow Park will open later this
season, once the contractor who built the splash pad and ice surface has made
final repairs to the ice plant on site.
The ice surface experienced issues with freezing last winter
and the contractor did not solve the issue in the spring. It has taken until
now to have conditions cold enough to test the surface after some repairs took
place. The contractor has pinpointed the cause of the issue and will be
installing new equipment in the next two weeks, which is expected to fix the
problem. The City of Saint John is withholding the final payment on the project
until the ice surface is working.
The City hopes to have the ice surface open to the public as
soon as possible. Residents are reminded to check www.saintjohn.ca or call 652-PLAY for free
public skating opportunities at the City’s four indoor arenas.
