As Hurricane Irene makes it way up the East Coast, citizens
of the City of Saint John are advised to prepare for heavy winds and possible
storm surges along the coast.
The City of Saint John reminds citizens to stay away from
coastal beaches Sunday and Monday as the expected storm surge and heavy wave
action could create dangerous conditions at beaches, including Mispec and
Saints Rest.
Municipal Operations crews are monitoring the rainfall,
which is expected to be in the range of 50 to 80 mm Sunday and early Monday
morning. Please check any storm drains and ditches on your property for debris.
If any roads are closed due to flooding, an advisory will be issued. Please
listen to local radio stations or visit saintjohn.ca to see any posted road
closures.
The Saint John Emergency Management Organization is
monitoring the storm and will issue advisories as required.
To report flooding or other storm-related damage, please
call 658-4455. In case of emergency, please call 911.
