Between 40 and 60 millimetres of rain are
forecast for this evening and tomorrow for Saint John. The low pressure system
is also forecasted to bring with it heavy and strong gusty easterly winds.
Residents in low-lying areas or areas susceptible to
flooding should take steps to prepare for potential flooding.
The City of Saint John Municipal Operations will be
monitoring the weather conditions and clearing and maintaining drainage paths.
Residents are advised to check eaves troughs and drainage swales, as well as catch basins or ditches on or near their property
for debris.
Residents are advised to use caution when driving and to
observe barricades and road closures. Police will be monitoring any flooded
roads and taking appropriate measures, including enforcement to ensure
compliance with barricades and/or traffic signs, and obeying police officers
signals.
Saint John Water will be monitoring water quality closely in the two surface water supplies – Latimer Lake and
Spruce Lake. As well, crews are completing preparatory maintenance work in
advance of the rainfall to ensure wastewater pumping stations and wastewater
treatment facilities are prepared for heavy rains.
Please listen to local radio stations or check the City of
Saint John website at www.saintjohn.ca for updates or special announcements
related to the effects of the storm.
