Public safety communications are working during Aliant outage: Call 911 ONLY in case of emergency

Thu September 29, 2011

While Aliant experiences network congestion due to damage to a fibre line in Northern New Brunswick, the City of Saint John is asking citizens not to call 911 unless it is an actual emergency.

The City’s public safety services, including fire, police and ambulance, are able to talk to each other and the 911 call centre during the sporadic outages. Police, fire and ambulance are being strategically placed around the city. If you experience an emergency and a 911 call does not work, please go to your local community police station, fire station or find one of the police cars, fire trucks or ambulances deployed around the city.

Aliant landlines and cell phones are affected, and some Rogers customers may experience a busy signal when making calls. Aliant is working on repairing the problem, but no timeline is available for the repair.
