Traffic Detour for Greenhead Road - Milford-Randolph

Fri August 20, 2010

From August 23 to September 2, Saint John Water will be cleaning and lining a 755 metre section of the Greenhead Road water main. Thru-traffic on Greenhead will be detoured around the work site via Balmoral Crescent and Russell Hill Road.
Almost 70% of the water distribution pipes in the Milford/Randolph peninsula are unlined cast iron, installed sometime before the 1970s. These pipes are highly susceptible to build-up of internal materials (such as minerals). While these deposits are safe, they decrease water volume and discolour water for customers.
To fix this, crews scrape off the mineral buildup in these mains and they add a cement lining to prevent the water main from future mineral build up. The work adds about 50 years of life to the water mains and keeps the water that goes through them clear.
We understand the impact that the Harbour Clean-up, Safe Clean Drinking Water, Asphalt and street reconstruction projects are having on area residents. These projects will result in inconvenience, but will produce significant improvements in the area’s water quality. We appreciate your patience.
