Message From The SJPF Chief Steph Drolet

Tue June 9, 2020

I hope this message finds you well.  Recent events over the past few weeks have caused each of us to reflect on an issue that has long been a topic of conversation and controversy.  Racism: how it affects all of our lives and how we can all strive to do things better and different.

I want to assure you that the Saint John Police Force is committed to working with all the communities within our city.  Our motto - Serve and Protect With Respect - is more than just words. It is the basis of what our officers and staff commit to every day, as we work together with many individuals and groups within our community. We will always strive to ensure that the needs and concerns of our citizens are met and we will always work to do better through continuous learning and active listening.

It is far from a perfect world but as we all work together, listen to each other, share our messages and respect one another, we can foster a culture of understanding and learning. Realizing what makes each of us different makes us more diverse, which not only provides us with a stronger point of view but also the ability to adapt to changing times.

I have witnessed a tremendous amount of strength, compassion and willingness to give since arriving in Saint John. This community understands that not everything is easy but with hard work, determination and a will to adapt, anything is possible.

There are many conversations still to come in the weeks, months and years ahead. I commit that we will always take the time to listen to our community leaders and citizens, from all faiths, backgrounds, cultures and races. We are all part of this community together and its diversity is what makes it so great.

Steph Drolet
