Saint John Police and Local Business Team Up to Provide Safe Exchange Zone

Tue September 17, 2019

As the buying and selling of goods on-line becomes more common-place, the Saint John Police Force and Crime reduction Unit, are hoping a new partnership will provide a safe area to do so. The Buy and Sell Safe Exchange Zone is located at 40 Loch Lomond Road, home of Kane’s Corner Convenience Store and Hi-Tech Security.

“There are so many advantages to having the safe zone,” says Constable Duane Squires with the Crime Reduction Team. “It is well lit, 24-hour surveillance camera and staff working at both the convenience store and Hi-Tech a good portion of the week,” adds Constable Squires.

The Saint John Police Force have responded to several incidents where a buy and trade situation online has gone bad for either the buyer or seller.

“If someone is looking to buy or sell an item and is not willing to meet at this neutral location, that should be a warning sign,” says Constable Squires. “The buy and sell safe exchange zone is another excellent example of the Saint John Police Force/Crime Reduction Team, working in conjunction with local business,” adds Constable Squires.

Chris Pyne is the owner of both Kane’s Corner Convenience and Hi-Tech Security. “I was thrilled to develop this partnership with the Saint John Police Force,” says Pyne. “I know a lot of my customers and friends who do business online and this new zone brings with it a level of comfort for conducting business,” adds Pyne.

“The internet has changed the way many people do business and the Buy and Sell Safe Exchange Zone will remove some of the risk in doing business on-line,” adds Constable Squires.
