Saint John Police Force Accepting Applications for New Officers

The Saint John Police Force is commencing the process of accepting sworn police officer applications from candidates for 2020. Please see below the requirements prior to sending your application:


Is becoming a police officer right for you? Police officers are an integral part of the community, responsible for maintaining law and order and protecting members of the public. Police officers build relationships with community members and work collaboratively with them to solve problems and enhance the well being of the people they serve with self-confidence, analytical thinking, while always acting at a high moral standard with honesty and integrity.

Minimum Requirements to become a Sworn Police Officer, as outlined in the New Brunswick Police Act:

  • Minimum 19 years of age
  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada
  • Graduate of the Atlantic Police Academy Police Science Program;
  • Graduate of a comparable training course offered at a police training institute approved by the Minister (New Brunswick Police Commission)
  • Have served a minimum of three years of satisfactory full-time service as a member of any police force in Canada
  • Not been convicted of an offence under the Criminal Code, Narcotic Control Act or Food & Drug Act for which you have not received a pardon.
  • Be of good character and habits
  • Possess a valid unrestricted driver’s license
  • Must be medically fit to police force standards
  • Must be able to pass the Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (PARE) test to police standards

In addition to the Atlantic Police Academy, Summerside, PEI, graduates of the following Police Training Academies are currently recognized under the provisions of the NB Police Act:

NOTE: Community college and other college courses that include studies in law and security administration do not meet the level of training as defined under the NB Police Act.

All police applicants must be security cleared.
