Saint John Police Force Purchasing Body Cameras

Tue July 21, 2020

Front line officers with the Saint John Police Force will be outfitted with body cameras in the fall of 2020.

“At this time, the goal is to have the body cameras operationally deployed the first week of November/2020 for all our front-line officers,” says Chief Steph Drolet.

“I am confident that body cameras will add another layer to improving public and officer safety, increasing transparency and further enhancing the forces investigative abilities,” adds Chief Drolet.

The body cameras are Axon Body 3 manufactured by Axon Enterprise of Scottsdale, Ariz. In addition to the new camera, Axon will also update the interview room’s software to Axon Evidence, which is a component of the Axon Network of connected devices and apps. The SJPF will also acquire the Axon Citizen software, which will allow officers to provide a web link for residents to upload photo and video evidence of a crime.

“These new upgrades will create an environment which will facilitate the video evidence collection from curb side to court room,” says Chief Drolet

The cameras will automatically activate when an officer is dispatched to a call. Front line officers will undergo training of the new technology prior to it being utilized in the day to day operations of the SJPF.
