Strengthening Relationships Through Partnerships

Thu December 5, 2019

The Saint John Police Force in partnership with the Saint John Newcomers Centre and Crime Prevention Association of New Brunswick, are pleased to unveil new educational videos for newcomers to the Saint John area.

“These videos discuss subjects such as how and when to use 911 services, addressing domestic violence and mental health crisis just to name a few subjects,” says Sergeant David Hartley Brown with the SJPF Crime Reduction Team.

The videos are produced in several languages including Arabic, French, English, and Mandarin and will soon be available through local websites.

“This information is very important to our newcomers to Canada as laws and processes vary from one country to the next,” adds Mohammed Bagha, Managing Director with the Saint John Newcomers Centre. “This project ensures that thousands of Newcomers to Saint John and throughout New Brunswick, will have this information for them in the language they are familiar with,” says Bagha.

“It has been a pleasure to work with both the SJPF and the Saint John Newcomers Centre on this community building initiative,” says Linda Patterson, President of the Crime Prevention Association of NB. “These educational videos will ensure that any questions or concerns a newcomer has when it comes to dealing with police officials, can be answered quickly and comfortably to find a resolution,” adds Patterson.

“The Saint John Police Force looks forward to the relationships these videos can foster with newcomers so we can learn from them and they can learn from us,” adds Sergeant Hartley Brown.

The videos are available to view at the Saint John Police Force website: https://www.saintjohn.ca/en/home/cityhall/protectiveservices/police/default.aspx
