Update - SJPF Respond to Sudden Death

On December 24, 2013 Saint John Police received a call to the Saint John Regional Hospital for a report of an injured child brought into the emergency department. The identity of the injured child was that of the child reported deceased on Christmas Day 2015.

The police investigation, in collaboration with the Department of Social Development concluded with the crown prosecutions office reviewing the file. The crown prosecutor advised that there was insufficient evidence to proceed with a criminal charge relating to the injuries sustained by the child.

Please respect the fact that the Saint John Police Force will NOT be releasing any further information concerning this case at this time.

Also a friendly reminder that the current incident remains under investigation, as police await the results of a pathologist report.

The Saint John Police Force received a call to a north end residence at approximately 145pm on Christmas Day, December 25, 2015 for a medical assistance call. It was reported that a small child suffered a fall inside the residence.

Officers arrived at the scene and learned from paramedics that the 26month old boy was unconscious / unresponsive. The child was transported to the Saint John Regional Hospital, and shortly thereafter he was pronounced dead.

Police are presently awaiting the results/ findings of a pathologist report which is expected to take some time. There will be no further comments issued at this time.
