Naturalist Programs and Seminars

Did you know that Rockwood Park employs a full-time naturalist?  Her job is to protect, preserve and promote the park’s natural environment and wildlife.  Trail maintenance, improved maps, signage and interpretation, and educational programs and are just some of the activities that keep our naturalist and the Rockwood Park staff busy.

Rockwood Park offers monthly seminars on subjects that relate to the various activities the park has to offer, including gardening; geology; birding; photography; astronomy; dog training, etc.

Our naturalist is also available to specialized groups to facilitate educational seminars and outings such as:

-    Interpretive hike. Get sworn in as a ‘nature protector’
-    Play nature games tailored to age groups ranging from 5-95.
-    Use pocket microscopes for exploring the ‘micro’ world.
-    Go on scavenger hunts.
-    Visit the garden plot to learn about where food comes from, get our hands dirty, and find out what’s in the soil.
