Cities of New Brunswick to launch public awareness campaign

Strong Cities Strong Province

The Cities of NB Association today launched a public awareness campaign to highlight some key issues facing New Brunswick’s cities leading into the upcoming provincial election.

“The 8 Cities in New Brunswick serve as the economic engine for our Province,” says Cities of New Brunswick Chair and Mayor of Miramichi, Adam Lordon.  “The education and action campaign launched today is to ensure that citizens and provincial election candidates are all aware of the issues facing our cities and the impact our cities have on the future success of our province,” says Lordon.

The Cities Association is also calling on all provincial parties to commit to reviewing key issues including;

1) The implementation of a fair property tax system
2) The provincial arbitration legislation
3) The current impediments on cities from generating non-tax revenue
4) The implementation of a hotel levy
5) The municipal sharing percentage for cannabis revenue

The association will also be reaching out to each candidate in the upcoming provincial election to secure their commitment to raise these issues if elected on September 24th.

“These issues are limiting our cities’ ability to continue to help drive provincial growth and opportunity,” says Lordon.  “By addressing these issues, we can ensure our cities keep New Brunswick strong.”
