City begins enforcement of alternate side parking rules

28-Feb-2020
Beginning immediately, owners of vehicles not parked according to the new alternate side parking rules risk being ticketed and/or having their vehicles towed. The new alternate side parking schedule for areas north, east and west has been in effect since early January and the City has now wrapped up its month-long efforts to inform residents of the changes. Signage has been installed in all areas now under the new schedule, and many local-area residents who park on the streets have received a notice about the changes on their windshields.

Vehicle owners are reminded that from the 1st to the 15th day of each month, parking is allowed on the odd-numbered side of the street. From the 16th to the last day of each month, parking is allowed on the even-numbered side of the street.

Changeover from one side of the street to the other takes place from 6:01 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. on the 15th day and the last day of each month.

The new schedule is among a number of items covered under recent amendments to the City of Saint John Traffic By-law. The new alternate side parking rules for the east, north and west areas of the city are consistent with the rules that have been in place for the South Central Peninsula for many years.  The City of Saint John appreciates the cooperation of all residents and vehicle owners as our crews work year round to maintain safe and accessible streets.
