Changes to garbage collection schedules for Thanksgiving, October 12

City of Saint John solid waste customers are advised of the following changes to regular collection schedule for Monday, October 12 and potential delays on Tuesday, October 13, 2020.

Monday, October 12 (Thanksgiving)

Regular Monday daytime collection moves to Monday nighttime collection.

Customers are asked to have their garbage and compost curbside no earlier than 6:00 p.m. and no later than 9:00 p.m.

Please note that garbage and compost pick-up may be delayed to as late as Tuesday (October 13) night due to modifications to resources, routes and assignments.

Tuesday, October 13

On Tuesday, solid waste and compost should be placed at the curb at the normal time (no earlier than 10 p.m. before the scheduled day, and by 7:30 a.m. on the scheduled day).  However, due to modifications to resources, routes and assignments, garbage and compost pick-up may be delayed to as late as Wednesday (October 14) morning.

Reminder: Please use proper curbside placement of garbage and compost carts

Customers are reminded to place their compost carts with the lid opening towards the street and the wheels toward your home to support automated collection technology. Thanks to this technology, there is no longer a need to place objects at the bottom of carts to elevate bags for garbage collection crews. All contents inside compost and garbage carts will be disposed.

City crews appreciate the efforts of customers to facilitate the efficient collection of garbage and compost.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Due to COVID-19 budget pressures felt by cities across Canada, Saint John has made every effort to control costs so that, as a city, we will finish the year with a balanced budget. These efforts include the temporary reduction of overtime costs associated with statutory holidays, when it is safe and acceptable to delay the service for a day. Our sanitation crews have not been collecting garbage and compost over holidays since the onset of the pandemic, and residents are notified in advance of the change to their service and any potential delays. Crews will continue to work as efficiently as possible following all holidays to keep potential delays to a minimum. We thank you for your attention to this notice and your understanding as we do our part to work through the challenges of this year.
