City of Saint John and CUPE Local 18 reach collective agreement

The City of Saint John and members of CUPE Local 18 have concluded a collective agreement. The new five-year collective agreement ensures continued quality service to the City, strengthens the City’s financial sustainability and contributes to operational efficiencies.

The deal results in no net increases in employment costs to the City over its term, achieves the target cost avoidance to address the requirements within the City’s sustainability plan and commits both parties to collaborate to achieve innovation and continuous improvement in the delivery of quality municipal services.

Union members voted in favour of the Collective Agreement late Wednesday, June 10, 2020. On June 11, 2020, Saint John Common Council approved the Collective Agreement.

The new Collective Agreement extends from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2024. Employees represented under the Agreement support the delivery of front-line operations in Transportation and Environment Services, Saint John Water, and Finance and Administrative Services.

The previous contract with CUPE Local 18 expired December 31, 2019.
