City prepares for a mix of precipitation

26-Feb-2020

With a mix of snow, ice pellets and rain forecasted for Thursday and Friday of this week, the City of Saint John Transportation and Environment Services will be working to keep City streets and sidewalks safe for motorists and pedestrians. Rain and snowmelt may cause localized flooding in some areas. City crews will be closely monitoring catch basins and drains.

Motorists should prepare for changing and deteriorating travel conditions and observe any signage and barricades.

Be aware of any winter parking restrictions, alternate side parking rules as posted on street signs, and City issued temporary parking bans. Parking bans may be called in the days after a snowfall to help facilitate the City’s snow clearing operation safely and efficiently. This operation involves a lot of heavy equipment used to widen streets, reduce snowbanks, and clear ice that has built up. Saint John has two parking bans: North-East-West and South Central Peninsula.

To prepare for the event of a prolonged power outage, citizens are reminded to have everything they need for at least 72 hours following a storm. This includes preparing an emergency kit for home and car. An emergency kit should include food, water, batteries, a battery-powered radio, first-aid supplies and any special items such as prescriptions, infant formula and equipment for people with disabilities.
