City of Saint John crews working to make City safe during storm

For the safety of citizens, the City of Saint John is asking citizens to stay off the roads until the end of the storm. Road conditions are currently treacherous, and snow clearing will be taking place during the usual rush hour.

Municipal Operations has activated the Winter Operations Centre, and will be clearing snow and salting and sanding roads and sidewalks for the duration of the storm and until roads and sidewalks meet the service objectives as set out in the Winter Management Plan. Motorists are asked to drive with caution if they must travel during the storm, and to find off-street parking where possible to allow plow operators a chance to clear the streets.

There is no overnight parking ban in the South-Central Peninsula, but motorists in the rest of the City are reminded that the Winter Overnight Parking Restriction is in effect and that vehicles parked on the street may be subject to ticketing and towing.

Streets and sidewalks will be plowed according to priority. Major arteries, highway connections and emergency routed will be cleared constantly, with major bus routes and streets connecting business districts as the second priority. Residents are reminded that subdivision streets may not be cleared of snow until after the snow has stopped to allow major arteries to be maintained.

Please note the following cancellations:

The City’s community centres are closed Friday from 3 p.m. onwards.

The Saint John 225 City Stories project will postpone Story Day scheduled Saturday, January 22 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the West Branch of the Saint John Regional Library in Lancaster Mall.
