Community Art Project Celebrates National Historic Sites

The Saint John City Market is pleased to launch its 6th year of Mobiles in the Market, a community art project in partnership with the Saint John City Market Merchants Association, local artists, 1450 children and staff from 21 schools and a daycare.

This year’s mobiles celebrate four National Historic Sites in Saint John: the Saint John City Market, Martello Tower, the Stone Church, and Fort Howe. The 478 hand-painted mobiles range from one to four feet tall.

The artwork will be on display in the City Market until late 2018, after which time the pieces will be sold for charity. All proceeds will be donated to the annual Harbour Lights Campaign which supports local food banks from Sussex to St. Stephen. Between the Mobiles in the Market project and Market at Night event where the artwork is auctioned, the Saint John City Market raises approximately $3500 every year to donate to the Harbour Lights Campaign.
