Dredging project is underway for floating dock space at Market Slip

08-May-2020

Excavation work is underway to increase the water depth at Market Slip. Approximately 3,000 m3 of material will be removed from the area to allow for the installation of a floating dock space for small boats. Currently, the City can only deploy three of the eight docks intended for Market Slip due to the limited depth in the area. The area was last dredged in 2004.

A temporary access road has been constructed at the volleyball court area to allow trucks to transport the material for disposal. The courts will be restored once work is completed. The area is expected to be fully functional for small boat docking in July 2020.

The dredging project is the result of a partnership between the City of Saint John and the Port Saint John, each funding 50 per cent of the initial dredging cost. As a key partner in the project, Port Saint John will complete the maintenance dredging of Market Slip for the next 12 years.
