Emera NB makes donation towards P.R.O. Kids program development

Emera NB General Manager Rob Belliveau presented P.R.O. Kids with a cheque for $5,000 today to support program development for the non-profit organization, which matches children and youth with sports and recreation activities.

“We know it’s a tough time financially for non-profit groups so we’re thrilled to offer support,” said Mr. Belliveau. “In addition to the physical benefits of recreation, P.R.O Kids also offers confidence and a sense of belonging.”

P.R.O. Kids placed over 1200 children and teens in a sports or recreation program of their choice in 2011. Equipment and registration fees are covered for the youth referred to P.R.O. Kids through donations. The administration costs are covered by the supporting municipalities, the City of Saint John, Grand Bay-Westfield, Rothesay and Quispamsis. As P.R.O. Kids places more youth in programs of their choice, the costs to administer and develop the program have increased.

“Corporate support of program development is a first for P.R.O. Kids in Saint John, and we’re happy to have Emera New Brunswick as a partner,” says Kathy Davison, chair of the P.R.O. Kids Advisory Board. “P.R.O. Kids will be working to place even more children and teens this year, giving them the opportunity to develop confidence and improve their skills.”

P. R.O. Kids will be working to place at least 1200 youth in a program of their choice, from hockey to art classes to theatre, in 2012.
