Full Boil Water Order Investigation Details as Presented to Common Council

At the May 30th meeting of Common Council, Brent McGovern, Commissioner of Saint John Water presented the findings of the investigation related to the May 9th boil water order.
A 20-page report titled “Latimer Lake Water Treatment Facility – May 9, 2016 Boil Water Order Incident Report” was presented to Common Council during Open Session. The report details the events leading up to and during the May 9th boil water order as well as the investigation into its root cause.
The report clarifies how and why the boil water order happened. Staff with Saint John Water sifted through a large amount of data in order to ensure the cause of the failure was isolated. The result is a highly technical report because it is a highly technical system.
Throughout this investigation, the City’s order of priority was and continues to be: a) protect the public; b) find the root cause of the failure and prevent it from recurring; and c) analyse the system for any other potential failure modes and fix them if it is practical to do so.
The City thanks the public for their patience and cooperation and encourages the public to read the report for full details about the boil water order investigation.
