Improving traffic safety of Main Street West and University Avenue

25-Sep-2020

The City of Saint John is making safety improvements to Main Street West and University Avenue this week.

On Main Street West, new double-yellow traffic lines have been added immediately west of Simms Corner. These lines have been added to help mitigate vehicles from stopping on the rail crossing. Traffic is to remain to the right of these double-yellow lines, as is a consistent practice elsewhere.

The right hand slip lane from Millidge Avenue to University Avenue is now under yield conditions to improve safety in this area. Traffic signs and traffic paint are installed to reflect this change. Traffic in this lane is now to slow down and yield to any traffic already in a lane on University Avenue.
