Permit activity in the City of Saint John continues to be strong – a good sign of early economic resurgence

24-Jul-2020

The City’s One Stop Development Shop is actively supporting customers with their development needs, Monday to Friday, and is pleased to report on the following for the week of July 13-17:

Building permits issued were valued at $7.6 million and included two large apartment buildings on the East side of the City (75 Heather Way and 50 Via Callabria Street)
The Phase 2 permit was issued for the project at 95 Wentworth Street, uptown, with a project value of $7.5 million.
At present, more than 70 permits are in the queue for review, representing a total value of approximately $45 million.

According to Amy Poffenroth, the City’s Deputy Commissioner of Growth and Community Development Services, “The City is experiencing remarkably high permit activity, with the current number of applications in the queue representing the highest amount the One Stop Development Shop has received at any given time this year.”

Poffenroth reaffirms her department’s commitment to its customers, “We want the public to know that demand is exceptionally high, which is a very good thing, and we can say with certainty that staff are working as quickly and diligently as possible to review applications and issue permits. Facilitating development within the City is a priority for us.”
