Please join us for the New Year's Day Levee at City Hall

21-Dec-2018

Mayor Don Darling and Saint John Common Council invite all residents to join them in celebrating the arrival of 2019 at the annual New Year’s Day Levee. The drop-in celebration will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 in the Ludlow Room on the 8th Floor of Saint John City Hall, 15 Market Square. Light refreshments will be served.

Entrances to City Hall are located at the rear of the building, directly across from the Chipman Hill parking garage. Accessible entrances are also available through the pedway from Brunswick Square, Market Square and the Canada Games Aquatic Centre. Due to construction activity, the front entrance off King Street and the side entrance off Chipman Hill will not be open.

The New Year’s Day Levee has been a time-honoured tradition in Saint John and other municipalities across Canada. It is a special time to bring the community together with Mayor and Council to mark the beginning of the New Year, mingle and wish each other well.

This year’s levee will be held in the City’s ceremonial Ludlow Room, next to the Office of the Mayor in City Hall. Named after Gabriel G. Ludlow, the first mayor of the City of Saint John, the Ludlow Room has been the place of gathering and celebration since 1971. With the move to a new, modernized City Hall space in 2019, this year’s levee will be historical in that it is the last one to be held in the 8th floor Ludlow Room.
