Saint John – 64th Annual Santa Claus Parade

On behalf of Uptown Saint John Inc.

“Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus…!”

The 64th Annual Santa Claus Parade is this Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 6 p.m. We invite everyone to come out and enjoy the magic of the season with us.

The theme of this year’s parade is ‘Christmas Memories’, and we are looking forward to all of the entries, unique, creative, and aglow with lights, as well as the marching bands and festive sounds of the season.

Please note that clean, gently used coats for the Coats for Kids Campaign by the NBCC Students and Staff and New System Laundry. Non-perishable food items for the Community Food Bank by the City Workers. Also, remember to bring your letters for Santa!

The Parade Route will be the same route as last year. The parade will leave the Causeway, go onto Union Street, left on Sydney Street, right on Kings Square North, left on Charlotte Street, down King Street and on to St. Patrick Street, on to Main Street, right on Lansdowne Avenue, and right at Wellesley Avenue. These streets will be closed off during the parade.

The Causeway (all 4 lanes) will be blocked off beginning at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday for parade line-up.

Citizens are asked to not park on King Street or Kings Square North after 3 p.m.

Any vehicles parked on these streets after 3 p.m. WILL BE TOWED.

NO NOISE ZONE will be along St. Patrick Street. Please feel free to gather in this area to watch the parade if you have noise sensitivities.

We are happy to announce our honorary Parade Marshal is Sergeant Jeff LaFrance. Sergeant LaFrance has recently retired from his post as a Saint John Police Officer for 31+ years, including 8 years as Traffic Sergeant and Street Crime Patrol. Sergeant LaFrance was an executive member of the Saint John Police Force Association, as well as Past President. He was one of the officers who researched the SJ Police Anniversary Antique Volkswagen Bug, tying it’s importance to the city and ensuring there be a restored bug for display at the SJ Police Museum. Sergeant LaFrance is Motorcycle trained and was involved in the development of the MADD vehicle. Continuing to give to society, Sergeant LaFrance is employed with the Province of NB, involved in Communities and Neighbourhood support. Sergeant LaFrance has volunteered with the Saint John Santa Claus Parade for years, and we are thrilled and proud to honor him this way, as the esteemed Parade Marshal for the 2016 Saint John Santa Claus Parade.
